My name is Andrew, I am a freshman at Ole Miss, and while on winter break I was able to intern for Johnnie-O. On December12th I entered Johnnie-O World Headquarters not sure what to expect. I started out by learning how to work with Excel, then some inventory work, as well as doing tags on shirts. Aside from all of that work, I was also able to understand how a company is ran, how the new pieces are decide upon, with what works and what doesn’t, as well as seeing all the ideas that get tossed around daily. Coming each day was always so interesting because of all the things that would take place. The office could be rather clean one day, and then coming in the next day I wouldn’t be able to see John when I walk in since boxes filled with shirts are piled so high it makes a wall between desks. The boxes created obstacles when trying to get out as well as being a barrier from the right side of the room. Other days I’d come in only to hear the sound of John’s Easy Listening playlist coming from his computer. Or I would come in to see all the samples for the upcoming Spring 2012 lineup of shirts, which are all looking great and must haves for any Johnnie-O consumer. The time spent at Johnnie-O was great, unfortunately I have to go back to school, but luckily the school I’m going back to is Ole Miss where there is never dull moment. Hopefully when I get back to Oxford I’ll see more people wearing their Johnnie-O’s at school. I know I certainly will be.

World Headquarters

It's getting a bit tight in here at johnnie-O World Headquarters. If we have anyone drops by - they'll have to sit on John's lap if they want a seat! Right to left we've got John, Katie, Kat, and Andrew. We're pumped up about 2012 - we've got good things coming down the pipeline. Keep checking back for new arrivals which are coming out later this month. It's going to be a GREAT year!!!

The Alcatraz Outlaws are Northern California's premier traveling lacrosse club. We attend 2 highly competitive recruiting tournaments each summer in an effort to expose our players to a high level of competition and the most college coaches as possible. While relatively new to the club scene, we've already achieved a tremendous amount of success winning the 2009 King of the Hill Shootout and being named the Top New Club team in the country by Inside Lacrosse Magazine.

The 2011 Alcatraz Outlaws have continued the legacy of success finishing in 2nd place in the 2011 King of the Hill Shootout after falling in the finals to a talented squad from Massachusetts. The 2011 roster is comprised of 21 young men who represent the best of the Bay Area, both on and off the lacrosse field. We will be competing later this week in the Gait Cup, nationally attended team tournament with the best club teams in the country with the goal of winning the highly sought after Gait Cup.

It was a packed night with Bleu Magazine’s Emerging Designer Spotlight Night featuring John O’Donnell of Johnnie-O. NYC embraced the west coast prep style!

One of the attendees was Jake Steinfeld, Body by Jake, who is a fan of the brand.

The Montauk oceanfront bar and restaurant made a Memorial Day splash in the New York Post thanks to a snappy new name—the Sloppy Tuna—that bemused and horrified many locals.

The controversy has certainly stirred up interest in the spot, formerly known for its terrifically trashy crowds and strategically placed stripper pole in the downstairs bar. The Post article suggested that Snooki and her Jersey Shore cohorts would be invading Montauk to pump their fists at the former dive.
Still, the new owners hope to establish themselves as serious restaurateurs. Tony Berkhofer, whose culinary skills put Westlake Clam and Chowder House on the map, will be at the helm when the kitchen goes live next week. While Berkhofer wouldn’t disclose details of his seafood-centric menu, General Manager Abigail Monahan promises "a kick-ass Sunday brunch."

I am writing to tell you that you have a problem with your “All Weather Shorts”. Calling this article of clothing “All Weather Shorts” is like Michelle Obama telling her book club “my husband has a government job” or calling the Dos Equis guy Hank rather than “The Most Interesting Man in the World”. These shorts do a lot more handle all weather.

To prove my assertion, I would like to point to the 2010 Battle. The Battle is an annual Ryder Cup-esque golf trip attended by twelve inordinately handsome men that wear only the most fashionable uniforms:

First Battle hole. The guys on the far ends of the group are about to stripe it down the fairway. The ten guys in between them are going to slice, hook or top tee shots (I am one of the guys in the middle)

This year’s Battle started with a practice round in a light rain with extreme mugginess. It was a weather situation that Battle combatant Dan Hickey described as a “pick your wetness situation”: raining enough to get your shorts wet on the outside and humid enough that your rain pants would cause an extremely sweaty situation inside the rain pants. I put on my Johnnie-O shorts and questions followed.

“Are those water-proof?” Yes.

“Did you cut the legs off of your rain pants?” No.

“Do they give you swamp ass?” No, they breathe very well thanks to these zippers.

It was then James Dolan suggested that “All Weather Shorts” was a poor name and “Anti-Swamp Ass Rain Shorts” captured the full functionality of the shorts. WE agreed. . . .

But we were all wrong. “Anti-Swamp Ass Rain Shorts” did not do the shorts justice as the next day proved. After a night in which we had all stayed up past our bed times, we lacked Tiger-like focus. It was not the first time this had occurred, so all twelve of us ordered 12 Bloody Marys from the pro shop. In past Battles I had learned that it is difficult to drink a Bloody Mary while riding in a golf cart driven by a guy who is also drinking a Bloody Mary after a combined six hours of sleep. On more than one occasion, I have walked up to the second tee in my carefully orchestrated uniform with a swing thought in mind and Bloody Mary in lap.

But not this year. On an 82 degree day without a cloud in the sky I put on my “All Weather Shorts” in the event I spilled my drink. After skulling an 8 iron over the first green and moping back to the cart, I sat down to take a sip of my drink. Pat, my playing partner, upset with my effort partner sped off, spilling my drink all over my lap.

I think they should be called “The All Weather (and beverage) Anti-Swamp Ass Short”.

The Wedge

The Wedge is not a wave. It's a 20-foot-plus meat grinder dreamed up by the devil himself. Located in Newport Beach, CA, it heaves, bends, and pulverizes surfers in ways that good little waves aren't supposed to do. The Wedge is a combination of two waves that merge together thrusting into a titanic slingshot that breaks with enough pounds per square inch to pound even the most manly of surfers. The key to a good Wedge wave is the correct swell interval. If the interval is just right, the side wave will hit the main swell at the perfect moment, causing it to "wedge".

Clearly The Wedge is not for everybody, as evidenced by those electing to "watch" their buddy do battle.

We were touched to receive a testimonial from a customer recently! Here's what he had to say:

"How can shirts save someone's life," one might ask. Well, read on and you'll see what I mean.
In April 2008, I was diagnosed with a very aggressive case of Hodgkins Lymphoma. I moved down to Houston, Texas for about a year to receive treatment which ultimately resulted in a Stem Cell Transplant. I lived in quarantine in a hospital for over 30 days. The scariest part of the entire nightmare was that I had an, at the time, 4 month old daughter. I wasn't about to orphan her. It was very hard to sit in that hospital bed and not constantly think about her and how I need to be there for her as she grows up. It was easy to get sad and depressed which is proven to hinder the healing process. Shortly before the Transplant, I learned about Johnnie-O shirts when I purchased three of them at a store in North Carolina. I loved the shirts..everything about them. I wore them in the hospital regularly and around Houston for the few months while I was being monitored by my doctors. I spent a good amount of time in the hospital surfing the Johnnie-O webpage and finding new things to buy. It was always such a happy day when I had a few new shirts and accessories arrive in the mail. It was a great to have something to look forward to. Moreover, the logo provided an excellent conversation topic and it was so great not to have to talk about having cancer all the time. It was amazing how having little events like "new-shirt Day" and refreshing conversation about normal life things like clothes can lift someone's spirits and truly aid in the healing process.
Today, I am just over one year cancer-free and a proud father to a beautiful and sassy 22 month old daughter. I will always remain dedicated to the team at Johnnie-O for keeping my head up and helping me heal! I couldn't begin to tell you how many Johnnie-O shirts I currently own but I plan on buying more!

Team Johnnie-O for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International!

On October 14-17, 2010 Team Johnnie-O biked 105 miles with temperature topping out at 108 degrees through Death Valley, CA! This charity bike ride helps raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), a charitable funder and advocate of type 1 diabetes research. There were 330 riders who raised 1.4 million dollars to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes!

2010 San Francisco Lacrosse Classic

Johnnie-O sponsored the 2010 San Francisco Lacrosse Classic, one of the biggest lacrosse events in California. Thousands of fans and supporters at the historic Kezar Stadium watched the face off between John Hopkins and Notre Dame. Head Coach Kevin Corrigan lead the Fighting Irish to victory over the Blue Jays 10-7. Such an amazing contest of will and skill will surely only add to the excitement of youth lacrosse in California whose players number over 10,000 and growing. The proceeds from the San Francisco Fall Lacrosse Classic will go the BAYS Foundation which supports programs and organizations that provide opportunities and increase access for low income youth to take part in organized sports programs in the Bay Area. Does anybody know who this mystery man is?! Croc Dundee? Jacques Cousteau? Indiana Jones? Tarzan? Bjorn Borg? Greg Norman? Maybe he was a recent contestant on Survivor? Could he be a famous Swedish rock star? We're not quite sure. If you happen to know, please let us know. We love it when rich and famous people are wearing johnnie-O gear. And on the cover of a magazine? Wow. No, I got it! This guy was the centerfold from the June 1978 PlayGirl issue! I think his name is Phil Packer.

Check out water man, Andrew, ripping it on his paddle board in the British Virgin islands. This guy is an animal. Decked out in his pale green johnnie-O 4-button so their captain is able to spot him easier in the rough seas. He's working his core without even knowing it! No need to work his lats though, as his are already razor sharp! Apparently this is a shot from the local paparazzi as they all thought it was George Clooney. Nobody, and I mean nobody, can take it from the office to the waves like our man, Andrew. On his way to shore for a big cocktail, I'm sure. Hope his wrist watch is waterproof.

President’s Cup Captain, Fred Couples, chose johnnie-O to be one of his products of choice for this year’s team gift bags. Among recipients of the gift bag were Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan and Phil Mickelson. Keep a look out for “Lefty” sporting his johnnie-O polo around town....Also, there was another johnnie-O product spotting at the President's Cup in the form of the all-weather shorts. Lefty's looper, Jim "Bones" Mackay, had on the navy blue's to round out his USA outfit. Thanks Bones!
